Ponderings from the pastor - September 2026

Dear friends at Lake Eunice, Wow, who can believe that as I write this, we are one week away from September. Already we see leaves beginning to turn and even fall off the trees. The days are definitely shorter, and some harvest of the crops has already happened. We are looking forward to the startup of our fall programs such as Sunday School and Men’s supper and women’s bible study. As most of you know, we had a very successful VBS with 10 Children coming to faith in the Lord and four rededications. That is why we go through all the work, to make a difference in the lives of children. This last week we said a tearful goodbye to our dear friend Vern Wolff as he went home to be with the Lord. He will be greatly missed as he did all our power points, played the piano at 90% of our church services and funerals. He did most of the orders online for our kitchen supplies, saving us hundreds of dollars a year, plus numerous other things. Pray for Esther and the Wolff family as they grieve their loss. The new addition is coming along nicely with all the lights and outlets now powered up. The next steps are flooring, concrete for sidewalks and entrances and siding. The Lord has blessed us with the funds to keep moving forward. We sure are looking forward to being able to use the extra space. In doing bible studies on Wednesday nights on Daniel, and a sermon series on Revelation, it sure brings to the forefront how much closer we are to the next big event in church history, the rapture of the church. There are no prophecies left to be fulfilled for this to happen. Although this may not be immediate, it certainly is eminent. This means that it could happen at any time. The bible warns us that His return will happen at any time in the twinkling of an eye. As we see lawlessness ramping up even in our area and across the country and around the world, we have to say along with the Apostle John at the end of the book of Revelation, “Amen! Come Quickly Lord Jesus!”

Wrong Answers
In II Kings 5: 1-14, we read an account that is astounding…miraculous! There are many parts in this story that hinge on the other parts---creating a truth that is worth telling again and again. In about 850 B.C., the Arameans(Syrians) went out in bands and took captives from the land of Israel. Among those captives was a young girl—perhaps 11-14 years old. She became a servant for the family of Naaman, who was a powerful military hero. This young servant girl spoke to Naaman’s wife and told her that if Naaman could see the prophet of Israel, “he would cure him of this leprosy.” Hearing this, Naaman brought gifts to the king of Israel hoping to inquire about the prophet. It just so happened that the prophet Elisha heard of Naaman’s request and sent a message to Naaman. Elisha’s messenger said that Naaman should go to the Jordan River and wash seven times. What?? That is not the answer Naaman wanted to hear. Why THAT river? Why seven times? The prophet did not even meet with him. He sent the answer via a messenger! Anger and pride overtook Naaman and he left. His faithful servants intercepted him and told him that he should do as the prophet had said. He finally went to the Jordan River and dipped himself into the waters seven times. Result? He was healed. What seemed like the wrong answer actually was the very thing that healed Naaman! Does that situation sound familiar? Perhaps the path you have been on seems fruitless and NOT for you. Or the answer you prayed for did not come or was NOT what you had hoped for. Those are the times we need to remember that His ways and thoughts are so much higher than our ways and thoughts. (Isaiah 55: 8-9) I’ll be candid …. There are times when I wish God would allow me to fix my problems and chose how He should answer my prayers. Believe me, I would NOT choose the “wait option” as an answer to prayer! 😊 Thankfully God has never allowed me to choose how prayers should be answered. How grateful we can be that our great God is omniscient and omnipotent. He is never surprised or confused. We can trust Him.What if……we waited for God to answer our prayers instead of charging ahead and trying to “fix” the problem? What if……we trusted God to repair a relationship that we just can’t seem to “get right”? What if…..we allowed God to be….God? A plaque we received for our wedding said it well….. “God gives the best to those who leave the choice with Him”. Satan would never want you to believe That God’s answer is the “best”.
